Born on August 9, 1967, in Fort Myers, Florida, Deion Luwynn Sanders Sr. was raised by his mother, Connie Knight, in a challenging environment.  He found solace and direction in sports, excelling in football, baseball, and track at North Fort Myers High School. His exceptional speed, agility, and natural athleticism were evident early on, setting the stage for a remarkable career.

High School and College Stardom
At North Fort Myers High, Sanders was a standout athlete in football, baseball, and track. He earned all-state honors in football and was a highly regarded baseball prospect.  He chose to attend Florida State University, where he continued to shine in multiple sports.
As a Seminole, Sanders was a two-time All-American in football, showcasing his incredible skills as a cornerback and return specialist. He won the Jim Thorpe Award in 1988 as the nation’s best defensive back.  He also played baseball for the Seminoles and was drafted by the New York Yankees in 1988.

A Two-Sport Professional Prodigy
Deion Sanders defied convention by pursuing professional careers in both football and baseball.  He was drafted by the Atlanta Falcons in the first round of the 1989 NFL Draft and made an immediate impact, earning the nickname “Prime Time” for his electrifying plays and flamboyant personality.
Sanders played in the NFL for 14 seasons, with stints at the Atlanta Falcons, San Francisco 49ers, Dallas Cowboys, Washington Redskins, and Baltimore Ravens. He was an eight-time Pro Bowl selection, a six-time first-team All-Pro, and a two-time Super Bowl champion. His unparalleled speed, coverage skills, and knack for game-changing plays made him one of the most dominant defensive backs in NFL history.
Simultaneously, Sanders pursued a successful baseball career, playing nine seasons in Major League Baseball with the New York Yankees, Atlanta Braves, Cincinnati Reds, and San Francisco Giants. He was known for his speed on the basepaths and his strong arm in the outfield.  He even achieved the rare feat of hitting a home run and scoring a touchdown in the same week!

Family Life
Deion Sanders has been married twice. He has five children: Deiondra, Deion Jr., Shilo, Shedeur, and Shelomi.  His sons, Shilo and Shedeur, have followed in their father’s footsteps, playing college football. Shedeur currently plays quarterback for his father at Colorado.

Coaching Career
After retiring from professional sports, Sanders transitioned to coaching. He founded Prime Prep Academy, a charter school in Texas, where he served as head football coach. He later became the offensive coordinator at Trinity Christian School in Cedar Hill, Texas.
In 2020, Sanders took the helm as head coach at Jackson State University, an HBCU (Historically Black Colleges and Universities) in Mississippi. He quickly turned the program around, leading the Tigers to consecutive Southwestern Athletic Conference championships and garnering national attention for his recruiting prowess and impact on HBCU football.
In December 2022, Sanders accepted the head coaching position at the University of Colorado. His arrival in Boulder has generated immense excitement and anticipation, with fans eager to see if he can replicate his success at Jackson State and revitalize a struggling Colorado program.
