Based on some sources, Gen Z’s have different views and feelings about the war between Hamas and Israel than older generations. Some of the main differences are:
• Gen Z’s are more likely to side with Hamas than with Israel, or to be neutral or undecided. A Harvard-Harris poll found that among 18-to-24 year olds, 48% said they sided with Hamas, 32% said they sided with Israel, and 20% said they were unsure or had no opinionhttps://www.newsweek.com/insane-number-gen-zers-support-hamass-slaughter-innocent-israelis-opinion-1837422.
• Gen Z’s are more likely to justify Hamas’s violence against Israeli civilians, or to condemn both sides equally. The same poll found that 51% of 18-to-24 year olds said Hamas’s killings of Israeli civilians could be justified by the grievance of Palestinians, 28% said they could not be justified, and 21% said they were unsure or had no opinion. Another poll found that 44% of 18-to-29 year olds blamed both sides for the violence, 27% blamed Hamas, and 15% blamed Israel.
• Gen Z’s are more likely to be influenced by social media and online platforms, where they get most of their information and opinions about the war. Many Gen Z’s have expressed their views and feelings on platforms like TikTok, Instagram, and Twitter, using hashtags like #FreePalestine, #SaveSheikhJarrah, and #GazaUnderAttack. Some Gen Z’s have also participated in online campaigns, petitions, and donations to support the Palestinian cause.
These are some of the ways that Gen Z’s feel about the war between Hamas and Israel. However, the views and feelings of Gen Z’s may vary among individual Gen Zers, and may change over time.
