Shedeur Sanders is a junior 6’2″ inch quarterback for the University of Colorado Buffaloes. He is the son of Deion Sanders, a former NFL star and the current head coach of the Buffaloes. He transferred to Colorado from Jackson State, where he played for two seasons and won several awards.
Sanders was born on February 7, 2002, in Dallas, Texas. He attended Trinity Christian School, where he led his team to four state championships and threw for over 12,000 yards and 123 touchdowns in his high school career. He was rated as a four-star recruit by 247Sports and had offers from several schools, including Alabama, Florida State, Georgia, and LSU. At Jackson State, Sanders became one of the best players in college football. He helped JSU to a 23-3 record as the starting quarterback, including a perfect 16-0 mark in SWAC games. Jackson State won two SWAC championships, the school’s first since 2007, and made two appearances in the Celebration Bowl, known as the HBCU National Championship game. Sanders holds Jackson State records for season passing touchdowns (40), and completions (344), and is second for passing yards (3,752; record 3,808). Sanders earned many honors and accolades at Jackson State. He was named the Jerry Rice FCS National Freshman of the Year in 2021 and a finalist for the Walter Payton Award as the top offensive player in FCS football in 2022. He also won the BOXTOROW National Offensive Player of the Year and a First-Team All-American in 2022. He was named the SWAC Offensive Player of the Year by the league and by Phil Steele in 2022, and the SWAC Freshman of the Year and second-team All-SWAC in 2021. Sanders transferred to Colorado in December 2022, following his father who was hired as the new head coach of the Buffaloes. Sanders has been impressive in his first season with Colorado. He has led the Buffaloes to a 3-0 start, including a dramatic comeback win over Colorado State in double overtime.
