Race Relations today in United States, 2024
But, before we discuss here is an overview of race relations in 1930’s and 1940’s.
The problems of the Great Depression affected virtually every group of Americans. No group was harder hit than African Americans, however. By 1932, approximately half of African Americans were out of work. In some Northern cities, whites called for African Americans to be fired from any jobs as long as there were whites out of work. Racial violence again became more common, especially in the South. Lynchings, which had declined to eight in 1932, surged to 28 in 1933.
In the past, African Americans and Brown citizen faced significant limitations in obtaining firearms and other essential resources. This situation has seen a marked improvement over time.
As for the potential widespread civil unrest, it’s essential to recognize that the understanding of historical events like the 1950s and 1960s can vary, especially among younger generations like Gen Z and millennials, due to the varying narratives presented in educational settings. The election of a president, whether it be Trump or Biden, and their ability to prevent such unrest is a matter of political speculation. It’s also worth noting that in history, the apparent majority or those in power do not always prevail, as evidenced by events such as the Vietnam War. These reflections serve as food for thought on the complexities of history.
